“In a world full of people, only some want to fly, Isn't that crazy? But we're never gonna survive unless, we get a little crazy." ~ "Crazy" by Seal My daughter Haley came home from school very quietly one afternoon last year. This being quite odd for our normally gregarious 7 year old, we were wondering what was up. After a little prodding, Haley shared that one of her friends had called her weird and hurt her feelings. Wanting to encourage her, I thought for a moment and offered, "Well, I think you're weird too, like me!". Haley's head shot up, and looking very puzzled she said, "I am?".
I gestured to Haley to get her dictionary and look up weird -- this is what she discovered:
"Fantastic, bizarre, of a strikingly odd or unusual character -- extraordinary"
In our world, normal is mediocrity. Normal is broke. Normal is hung up so much in our past that we can't live in our possibilities. Normal is living a life without a plan ("a vision without a plan is a hallucination").
If there is one thing I certainly don't want to be, it's normal. "In a world full of people, only some want to fly, Isn't that crazy?"
