Just Setting Goals, or Drawing the Line in '09?

Just Setting Goals, or Drawing the Line in '09?
Every year I help thousands of folks (maybe many of them just like you) to dream big and set goals to power them.  I interact with you on my weekly radio show, my podcast, through my blog, in small groups and large presentations, in teleseminars and one-on-one; in almost every conceivable fashion -- all with similar results.

And every year, 12 months pass for many of them -- and nothing changes.  To what do you chalk up your current results?

Is your problem with your career ... ?

  • I go from one dead-end job right into another.
  • They don't pay me enough.
  • I did everything I could, but they fired me anyway.
  • I don't what my passions are.   Somehow along my way, I forgot how to dream.
  • I'm afraid to do what I love for my living, because if I do I won't love doing it anymore.
  • I can't make enough money doing what I love to support myself.
  • I don't have a degree.
  • I don't enjoy working in my degree field.
  • I don't have enough experience -- they keep telling me they're looking for someone with more (ie. I'm too young).
  • I have too much experience -- my age works against me.
  • My boss doesn't understand me.  He doesn't understand my strengths and therefore I don't have the opportunity to use them most of the time.
Or, with your money ... ?
  • I don't make enough to budget my money.
  • I make too much to be bothered with budgeting my money.
  • Money and me, they just don't get along.
  • No matter how hard I try, I just can't seem to save a dime.
  • Money was at the root of my divorce.  We never were able to talk about it.
  • I want to tithe, but I just never seem to have it on Sunday.
  • Regardless of what I make, we just don't ever seem to have much to show for it.
Your business ... ?
  • I'm afraid to start my own business.  Business is hard -- what if it doesn't work out?
  • I can't start over again in my business, I have too much invested in the way I'm doing it now.
  • I have too much competition.
  • I know they've not been performing for a while, but I just can't bring myself to let them go.
  • I don't bring enough in to afford good people.  Almost everyone I hire turns out badly.
  • It takes everything my business makes just to pay my bills.
  • Man, oh man, the IRS is killing me!
  • How can I raise my prices?  There's too much competition out there now already.
  • I don't know how to market and generate more customers.
  • I think it would give me a lot of confidence, but I don't know how to build a plan for my business in 2009.
  • My business has become everything I didn't want it to be.  I just bought myself a J.O.B.
Or, maybe it's with your life?
  • I'm too fat.
  • I'm too shy.
  • I'm too old.
  • I'm afraid to take risks.
  • I'm not cautious enough.
  • I don't know my strengths.
  • I don't have a purpose or plan for my life.
  • I feel like I'm overselling my time, underselling my value and my results don't line up with my true capabilities.

No matter who or what you are, there are always enough "reasons" to stay exactly where you are right now.  I know, I used to be just like you.

Many of the statements on the lists above was typical of how I used to think.  That is, before I realized the power in drawing the line.

I used to set goals, watch them smolder and wait for them to go out.  Now, I always keep my keen desire stoked and my definite resolution to do ablaze.   I dream first,
make plans and then ACT.

Before, I would put down on paper what I thought others wanted from me.  Today, I joyfully sketch out what I want my life to be.  Every year.  This year.  Without fail.

King Solomon wrote in Proverbs 16:3 that you should "commit your actions to the Lord, and your plans will succeed."  SO many times in the bible, God advises us to take action.  In fact, earlier in Proverbs 14:23 Solomon tells us that
"all hard work brings a profit, but mere talk leads only to poverty."

Simply put, as a mentor of mine once told me -- Tell me anything, show me everything.

Share your plans with me.  Let me know if I can help.  And, for some free advice, call my radio show Saturday mornings from 10-11 CST.  210-340-9585 or go to my homepage to listen live.

I'm pulling for you.
