When I coach someone on life issues, I talk with them about what I call the "4Ps" -- Personality, Proficiency, Purpose, and Passion. While all four are key ingredients for the fulfilled life, passion may indeed have the most recognizable influence on our life choices. A good friend of mine, Justin Lukasavige, is following his passions in a big way while focusing his efforts on a battle many of you may be familiar with -- Prostate Cancer. Other than skin cancer, prostate cancer is the number one cancer in males in the US. 1 in 6 men will be diagnosed with prostate cancer at some point in their lifetime.
The Prostate Cancer Climb has been active since 2000 when a team of guys got together to raise awareness for Prostate Cancer. They traveled to South America to climb Mt. Aconcagua, the highest point in South America. Since then, they've been climbing mountains all over the world to raise awareness and money to battle this disease.
Justin was involved in the very first climb and continues with the team this year on Mt. Blanc, which lies on the border of France and Italy.
Justin has been getting ready for this climb by working out whenever he can. He's been running a lot, but has had to cut back because of a 10-year old knee injury. I hope that hasn't slowed him down too much in his preparation ... This is a disease that we can do something about. Society has made huge progress towards finding working treatments, as well as the causes of all sorts of cancers. Prostate Cancer is no different.
You can join in this fight by visiting Justin's fundraising page prior to September 8th (when the climb begins) at www.firstgiving.com/jll to read more about the climb and how to donate. All donations are tax deductible.
If you have any questions, Justin would love to talk with you. You may reach him at (919) 342-0801.
